The more I work on the car the more i find my self wanting to fix areas that previously i may have given a pass since it may not have been seen, like in this case behind the grill. The light surround was a little mangled yet the grill and lights still fit, i couldContinue reading “MK1 VW – Fixing It All And Doing It Right.”

VW MK1 Restoration – Car Dolly and More.
When your doing a restoration like this you will eventually come to a point where you will want to take all the suspension and wheels off the car. Not a big problem if you have space to leave the car on jacks and still work on all side. Unfortunately I have limited space and needContinue reading “VW MK1 Restoration – Car Dolly and More.”
DIY Car Restoration:Welding and Engine Update.
I’ve nearly completed the major metal work on the front of the car, so I tested the paint remover I obtained. It had a terrible smell but worked effectively; just brush it on and wait 10 minutes. The paint eventually becomes soft enough to wipe off with a cloth. It seems to remove all theContinue reading “DIY Car Restoration:Welding and Engine Update.”

DIY Car Modification: Some pieces you can’t buy.
A lot of pieces for the body are still availability as aftermarket replacement panels. Some things however either need to be cut out of a donor car or you need to fabricate them yourself. I felt like giving it a shot at fabricating the pieces myself but didn’t really know we’re to start. I watchedContinue reading “DIY Car Modification: Some pieces you can’t buy.”
DIY Car Modification: Welding… And then some more welding.
Some time you have to just dive right into to the deep end, and this has been the case since I started to get into some metalwork and welding. Like new again….well sort of.
I fit the cabs back together loosely to make sure I did not misplace anything during cleaning. It also keeps the insides cleaner since I’m still waiting for some replacement part to come in the mail. I couldn’t resist snapping a few pic of a test fit with the refinished air horns. Enjoy.
Weber bonus shots.
I did the initial cleaning before opening the carbs for the first time. This minimized the chance of some foreign partials getting in and blocking up one of the many passageways. The pieces within the carbs may look small and fragile but hey are all actually quite robust. So very intricate internally, though when youContinue reading “Weber bonus shots.”
Weber DCOE
When I found this car I was pleased to find that it had previously run various sets of Weber dcoe carbs. I thought this couldn’t be more perfect. This is something I had always known I’d wanted to do, I love the look of it when mounted on the engines, there’s just something so rawContinue reading “Weber DCOE”
